Some elements of prevention and orthodontic treatment can be carried out already in young children with a full set of milk dentition. But the best time for orthodontic treatment is a mixed dentition period from 6 to 12 years of age. Then we can use acrylic removable appliances. Various types of screws, clasps, wire arches and tongue barriers can be added to this appliance. The primary task is to widen too narrow jaws in order to make room for erupting permanent teeth or to adjust relative positions of the jaws leading to proper functioning of muscles. Orthodontic treatment conducted with the use of removable appliances lasts for several years until the permanent teeth have erupted (about 13 years of age).
